Hello. I'm interested in what's going on over here and wanted to check it out. You can leave a message in my talk page. Oh and my name is Mike... generally speaking there are a bunch of us so I adopt this alternate spelling on websites. I forgot to mention I'm a liberal. Liberals have been accused of hiding their ideology and I don't like being accused of anything.

Conservapedia in Quotes
"No versions of history contain anything worth keeping" - Interiot
"We are not equals" - Ed Poor
"I've reviewed your edits and found them to be deficient." - Aschlafly
Conservapedia is an online resource and meeting place where we favor Christianity and America. - Conservapedia Mainpage circa March 6, 2007
"(Andy will decide when to unblock him. Cease!)" - User:TK in the Block Log for PaLMD
Why conservapedia is doomed to fail
- Structure The nature of a wiki is to be a pyramid, very wide at the base and swiftly narrowing to the top. Conservapedia is quickly setting itself up as an inverted pyramid. The entire enterprise rests on Andrew Schlafly, he doesn't just set the direction for the site, he is the direction for the site. He is the first option for an appeal, the last word on policy, the only view that matters is Andrew's view. A site that so relies on the influence of one man is not the work of a community. Andrew is now the sole judge of what is "silly" and what is "intelligent sarcasm" vs "unintelligent sarcasm."
- Misunderstanding of Authority As indicated by the flag you might be able to see in the upper left hand corner, this is an American website. In America, we're used to a government that ostensibly supports the people. The government is supposed to be for the people, right? It's safe to say by watching the majority of sysops that they care more for their own well being or the well being of their point of view than they do for the well being of the site. Sysops block users with whom they disagree, erase content on talk and user pages that is critical of them, revert content for ideological reasons, close access to pages for whatever reason they see fit. Sysops are not held accountable to the people for their actions, it's unclear if they're answerable to anybody.
- Bias? Let me quote Andrew here on wikipedia:
"Wikipedia's liberal bias is bad because it is not disclosed to readers," Schlafly said. "Visitors are misled into thinking Wikipedia is a neutral source, when it is not. Wikipedia should disclose its bias to readers, or try to reduce its bias." - ScrippsNews.com
What is missing from that quote? An explanation of conservapedia's bias. Is there one? It claims to be "neutral to the facts." I'm not entirely sure what that means as some facts are clearly more well received on this site than others. Clearly this site has a conservative bias... I can see that in the name. A pro-American bias is easily visible as well (Hello upper left hand corner!). So why is conservapedia reticent in admitting it? And why is it so reticent to admit that it has a Fundamental Christian, Biblical Literalist, Young Earth Creation bias? If that's why "Wikipedia's liberal bias is bad" why doesn't conservapedia state their bias clearly and concisely?
- The Commandments Clarity and brevity in policy is great. But clarity is more important than brevity. For instance, there is nothing that defines what sources are acceptable, nothing deciding what constitutes gossip or what is family friendly. This gives incredible power to the sysops and allows the site to be managed in many different ways... inevitably ending with what Andrew wants.
- Know your Enemy How is it possible to tell who is a genuine conservative and who is a only posing as one? The now defunct user:Richard was embraced for his article on Warren G Harding and lauded by many for his blacklist. He was a fake. User:CWilson's work on the bible was well regarded, User:Conservative nominated him for sysop, it later turned out he was a Democrat and didn't think abortion was as bad as he ought to, he was ostracized by his Bible collaborator, the collaborator apologized, Andrew thought he was lying about teaching Sunday school and blocked him for a week. (Amusingly, all trace of CWilson was soon removed from Conservative's page)
- Left Hand, meet Right Hand Policy being under such strict control of the sysops is one thing. When there are no policies to guide those sysops, it's another. Can sysops block users with whom they are in an editorial conflict? Some say yes, some say no. Can other sysops unblock users without consulting the blocking sysop? What if they were blocked while engaged in an editorial conflict. Why should sysops protect articles? When and how should they be unprotected? Can sysops block users who who complain about them? Are all sysops created equal? That one I can answer.
- Lockdown People that work on wikis are accustomed to certain things. Among them is the ability to edit pages. Without rules as to why pages in which they have an interest. Should that ability be inhibited by an extended protection time, users will be pretty far out of their comfort zone.
- Know Your Audience Conservapedia knows their audience all too well. So well that they're all they want to talk to. Commentary on the main page in particular is so biased, so slanted, it has no possibility whatsoever of hooking someone who may not already be interested. No chance of convincing anyone to give conservatism a try. It exists merely to preach to the choir and polarize everyone else.
How have I contributed?
- 2008 Presidential Election
- John McCain
- Rudy Giuliani
- Sam Brownback
- September 11, 2001 attacks
- Barack Obama
- Vast Right-wing Conspiracy
- Scrabble
- Monopoly
At that point I got frustrated with the fact that no one seemed to care about political figures or matters on an ostensibly conservative wiki and just gave up any hope of contributing. Also, I'm seldom responsible for the content of the articles. Please don't complain to me about the information you find on someone's article I edited. If it's more controversial then when they were born and when they took office and where they went to school, it wasn't me.
